Let’s Talk About Water Science and the Role of Film: Reflections on 50 Years of the UNESCO-IHP Programme

12 June 2025, 11:00 – 12:30
UNESCO HeadQuarters, Paris, France

UNESCO-IHP connects water science with water policy — and this session brings together the power of film and dialogue, illustrating how water shapes communities, cultures, and futures.

Throughout the session, we highlight film as a powerful storytelling tool — not only to inform, but also to inspire action and deepen understanding of complex water issues.

We will begin with a screening of the award-winning short films from the 2024 Latin American Prize for short films about water and science, hosted in conjunction with UNESCO IHP-LAC, followed by Voices of the Guarani — both offering compelling perspectives on today’s water challenges in the region. We’ll then turn our attention to ancient hydro-technologies from the Voices of the Water Programme created by the Global Network of Water Museums, a flagship Programme of UNESCO-IHP.

This session is part of the Let’s Talk About Water initiative, which also serves as a platform for scientific panels, communication grants, and public engagement opportunities, fostering meaningful dialogue around critical water challenges worldwide.
