This initiative, presented by Let’s Talk About Water was inspired by the OECD report: A survey on Water in African Cities prepared for World Water Day 2021 and the Mayor’s Roundtable for the World Water Forum Dakar Senegal 2022.
The Data revealed that Mayors are on the frontline of water problems – too much, too little, too dirty – and that young people will be 60% of the population of the African continent in 10 years.
These two constellation points Mayors + Youth sparked the creation of Mayors Make Movies – an initiative to foster communication about water issues and solutions by the making of short films. Young people are visually literate and highly engaged with digital and social media; Mayors and their administrations need to build bridges amongst themselves and our youth!
