The 15th edition of the Luxor African Film Festival takes place from March 30 to April 6, 2026, in Luxor. This year’s festival honors the legacy of acclaimed Egyptian filmmaker Youssef Chahine.
As part of the program, Let’s Talk About Water, in partnership with the festival, will present a special screening featuring the winning films from the short film competition “Back to Our Future: Arid Lands and Ancient Hydro-Technologies (AHTs).”
These films offer diverse perspectives on how time-tested water management practices have supported a balanced relationship between communities and their environments. They highlight the role of these techniques in preserving biodiversity, sustaining livelihoods, strengthening social cohesion, and maintaining traditional landscapes.
By showcasing these stories, the initiative underscores the continued relevance of Ancient Hydro-Technologies (AHTs) as innovative responses to current environmental challenges. In particular, they offer valuable insights for water management strategies in arid regions increasingly affected by climate change, land degradation, and migration. The festival is organized by the Independent Shabab Foundation.
